 Hello everyone!

I've had a lot of experience with Microsoft Word and Microsoft programs. In K-12, I was introduced to both Microsoft Word and Google Docs. So far, Microsoft Word had been my favorite word processing software. I personally prefer Microsoft Word because, since it was the first software I learned, I'm more familiar with the way it works.

The standard for ISTE Standards for Educators that is most meaningful to me in the Citizen standard. The citizen standard creates a relationship between the teacher and fellow peers. This contributes to a more positive learning environment. This standard teaches students safe ways to use digital tools in ways to protect themselves and their property. This standard is important, especially in younger students because it is important for them to learn safe ways to use technology. With technology use rising, hackings are becoming more frequent. It is important for students to keep themselves and their property safe.

Digital native refers to the ease of learning how to use technology depending on the generation. For example, it is easier for generation Z to use technology than it is for generation X. I personally agree with the label "digital native" because having a mother that was born in generation X, she always asks how to do certain things on her phone or laptop. Due to COVID-19, a lot of jobs are now remote, my mom's job being one of them. Since she is forced to now work from home, she has to constantly use her laptop. It makes her job a tad bit harder because she is not used to using technology daily to get her job done. Being in remote classes has been pretty easy for me since I am so used to using technology. I anticipate that my future students will be very tech savvy.

  1. Hello, Jade!

I am so glad that the Citizen standard is the most meaningful standard to you. Much like you, I also believe that building positive teacher-student relationships is of the utmost importance in any learning setting. Students tend to trust their instructors, hence why it makes perfect sense for teachers to be the ones who provide them with the necessary information - especially when it comes to online safety, as you very well pointed out. I agree that protecting students is really what it all comes down to - both in the real world and in the virtual world!

  2. Hi Jade,

I too love MS Word due to my familiarity with it. I also love your paragraph on the Citizen standard being the most important ISTE standard. The relationships between teacher-student are very impactful on both sides because in some cases, students are able to teach the teacher something useful, especially with technology due to the different levels of digital native experience(s). I'm glad you are also able to help your mother with her use of technology. I actually have the opposite dilemma with my mother, as she lives on her computer for work and even with remote work, she thrives at her multiple desktops and I struggle with my laptop.

  3. Hi Jade!

I was also introduced to Microsoft Word (and other Microsoft Office programs) pretty early into my education, but despite my experience with it, I've found that I like Google's programs (Docs, Slides, ect.) better. Those programs feel a bit smoother to use I suppose, so I use them more. I definitely agree with you about the importance of the Citizen standard. I feel like it's the most versatile standard in that it's priority is that students learn how to navigate the internet safely, which is definitely one of the most important things to teach students.

  4. Hi Jade,

I also prefer Microsoft Word over any other programs. Although I have used google docs MS words is something that I have had a lot of practice with and am comfortable using over other things like Google Docs. I think that as we get older and the technology continues to develop that we will eventually be considered "out of touch" by generations that follow us. Since technology is developing so rapidly it is hard for past generations to keep up.

  5. Hey Jade. I feel the same way about MS Word, it's what I know so it's what I like. I like what you said about how this digital divide is affecting us especially in covid era. I can't imagine the difficulty for digital immigrants in this time, though maybe this is a chance for them to catch up with the times. I have a feeling that technology will have an even stronger permanence in our world after this is all said and done.
